shrimp blackened with a mixture of spices

Make the best blackened shrimp with this recipe! These juicy, tender blackened shrimp can be added to a bowl, wrap, tacos, salads, skewers, or pasta (so really, anything you want). They’re so versatile and add a delicious kick to every meal. You can make the shrimp as spicy as you want by adding more or less cayenne. These shrimp are easy to make, ready in 10 minutes, and adds a tasty protein to any meal! Make this recipe and don’t forget to leave a review!

    Ingredients

    • Shrimp
    • Olive oil
    • Smoked paprika (or regular paprika)
    • Garlic powder
    • Onion powder
    • Dried oregano
    • Dried basil
    • Dried thyme
    • Cayenne
    • Pepper
    • Salt

    Tips

    • Do not overcook. I repeat: Do not overcook! This will dry out the shrimp and make it more tough. Cooking for one or two minutes on each side should do the trick!
    • Wait until the pan is nice and hot to put the shrimp on. This also helps the blackened shrimp stay nice and juicy.
    • Put the shrimp in a single layer on the pan (don’t overlap!) so the shrimp can cook evenly.
    • After placing the shrimp on the pan, don’t touch them except for to flip them once. This helps them get a little bit of a crispy exterior.

    FAQs

How do I know when shrimp is done cooking?

Shrimp cook very quickly! Watch them the whole time they’re cooking because it is very easy to overcook them. Keep an eye on the back of the shrimp where the vein is removed from. Once this turns pink, they’re done! Remove them immediately, otherwise they will overcook. This info is also helpful for my shrimp mango spring rolls and chipotle shrimp tacos.

How do I thaw frozen shrimp?

Place the shrimp in a bowl or colander and run cold water over it for about 5-10 minutes, until thawed.

    Instructions

    1) Mix together all the ingredients besides the shrimp and olive oil (all the spices).

    2) Place the shrimp in a bowl and mix with olive oil.

    3) Pour the spice mixture over the shrimp and mix until the shrimp are coated.

    4) Heat a skillet to medium-high heat, then place shrimp in a single layer on the pan. Cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side, until cooked through.

    5) Remove from heat and serve on salads, bowls, burritos, pastas, tacos, wraps, or skewers!
