When it comes to making “healthier” recipes I have one rule: Do not sacrifice flavor! If that’s not possible, I say go for the original version. This recipe is one that sacrifices absolutely no flavor for the sake of being healthier. The base of buffalo chicken dip is typically cream cheese and sour cream or Ranch dressing. This dip uses yogurt and cottage cheese as the base instead. You may think that this would sacrifice flavor, but it does not! The blue cheese and buffalo sauce give so much flavor in this dish, you can’t even tell! This appetizer is only 6 ingredients and incredibly easy to make. What ingredients do I need to make this recipe?
- Chicken breast
- Cheddar cheese
- Plain Greek yogurt (nonfat or regular)
- Crumbled blue cheese
- Small curd cottage cheese
- Buffalo sauce
- Optional for topping: chopped green onion or cilantro
What should I use to dip into this recipe?
Whatever sounds good to you! I love using fresh vegetables, tortilla chips, or toasted bread to dip into this!
I don’t like cottage cheese, is there something I can replace it with?
Full disclosure, I also do not like cottage cheese. You really can’t taste it in this recipe because the buffalo sauce and blue cheese are such strong flavors, it’s really there to make up for the texture of the cream cheese. I highly recommend giving it a try as a fellow cottage-cheese hater! If you don’t use it, the texture of this dish will be off and I would recommend just making a regular buffalo chicken dip instead.
Can I use rotisserie chicken?
Yup, that will work just fine if you have that on hand!
What kind of buffalo sauce do you use?
I use Frank’s Red Hot. It’s my favorite, but you can use whatever you like!
